My husband and I aren't doing Christmas presents this year. For me, this is HUGE! I loooooooooove presents! I love giving them. I love receiving them. I am a gift giver to the core. But this year, something has changed.
When I first became a mama, I can't tell you how many times people told me "cherish each second because they grow so fast". Even though it can get a little (ok, A LOT!) annoying to hear the same thing over and over AND over again, ummmm, YOU ALL WERE SO RIGHT! I can not believe our Little Man will be 1 year old in less than 2 months!!!
On one hand, this makes me SO incredibly grateful to think how unbelievable it's been to watch him grow each day and do something new every week. Babies are truly miracles in every way. Let's get real...watching your own baby eat with their own two hands by picking up food with their thumb and pointer finger is hands down, THE BEST entertainment on a random Wednesday night. Hearing "mama" for the first time made my bawl like a baby. Any little thing is seriously the COOLEST thing. I. CAN'T. GET. ENOUGH. of this little ray of sunshine!
Even though it's so cool to see him grow, it makes me really sad to think how fast this year has gone by. Really, where does all the time go? Mamas, are you with me on this?
If I could change ONE thing, I would change the amount of QUALITY time I have been able to spend with my Little Man over the last 10 months. Sadly, we can't buy time. As a mom, I tend to worry about everything getting done and being the best I can be. If you're a mom and reading this, I'm sure you know exactly what I mean. Being a full time working mom and an entrepreneur building my health & fitness business leaves me with absolutely no "free time" and often makes me cut into my family time. Talk about mama guilt. While naps can be looked at as our one chance to get things done, I'm starting to regret not cuddling and holding my little guy more while he sleeps. I could spend all day staring into his sweet, perfectly round, mocha colored face of innocence...if I had the time. Truth be told, we MAKE time for things that are important to us.
This quote above is one that I often share with my clients that are working toward their health & fitness goals. Well, today, it hit me. I need to apply this VERY same message to me being a mama.
So, my gift to my Little Man and to my myself over Christmas break (I only work 2 more days this year and have the rest of the time off until 2015!!!!) is to play more, cuddle more, and to let him fall asleep in my arms instead of putting him down in his crib. You can't buy happiness and that's all I really want for Christmas this year.
